The Project Guidelines--
- The theme for the display is "Creativity Across America", and we have chosen wooden books for the ornament surface. There are specific colors that the books must be basecoated in, and each artist will design and paint the cover as a book about their state. "Tales from Texas" or "Living in Louisiana", "Wisconsin Winters", etc. are some examples. We will be painting several hundred ornaments, so there will be several from each state.
- The colors we have chosen for basecoating the book covers to complement the color scheme are any of the following:
Decoart Deep Burgundy, Hauser Dark Green,
Deep Midnight Blue, or Honey Brown
Delta conversions are Barn Red, Dark Foliage
Green, Midnight Blue, or Golden Brown.
Plaid Folkart conversions: Alizarin Crimson,
Hauser Green Dark, Navy Blue, or English
Mustard
- Please paint the page edges in gold metallic
paint, such as Decoart's Emperor Gold. Use the varnish of your choice to complete your project.
- Each book measures 6 7/16" tall and 4 1/2" wide and is 3/4" thick. There is routing on the spine for more detail, and they are finely sanded. They will hang vertically, the long way, on the tree. No design is needed on the back, as it will not show, but please sign and date the book.

- We will provide the ornament hanger when they are returned for mailing to the Library of Congress.
- Each artist is required to include brief written info about themself and their ornament.

-Brief Description of Design:
- There is a cost to purchase the ornament to cover the surface expense, shipping materials, and postage. The books will be sent Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. The submitting artist will mail the ornament back at their own expense.
- Each artist is limited to one submission, although you may order additional books if you would like to have them to practice on.
- You may add embellishments to the book cover, such as decorative wood cut outs or glitter or Snow-Tex, being careful to securely attach them.
- The deadline to return the ornaments to ME is October 24, 2005, as they will all have to be cataloged by me and then shipped on to the Library of Congress by about the first of November. Sorry, I won't be able to accept the submission of any ornaments after October 24. Please don't send your ornaments directly to the Library of Congress as they require them to all be sent in one container.
- Please keep in mind that all ornaments must be appropriate for children to view, and must not be insulting to any particular government official, officer etc. The ornaments will be screened by the LOC and anything judged inappropriate will be removed.
- The ornaments submitted to the Library of Congress will not be returned to you and are considered a donation.
- I will be travel teaching in the UK Sept. 22-Oct. 3, and will be unable to ship at that time, so please order early!
